5 questions to ask yourself as a new Moodby DJ

Have you already joined our music app for DJs? Congrats, you are in the Moodby DJ squad now! Before you dive into the music universe with over 2.5 million of licensed tracks to listen to and pick, let’s talk about your destination.

As a music expert, there are many paths you can take on the Moodby DJ app. For example, you can generate Base stations for different businesses or focus on crafting exclusive playlists for a few venues to make more money on extra subscription fees.

Answering these five questions may help you choose the best strategy.

1. Where do you live?

As a resident of a European capital or big city, you most likely have dozens of bars, cafes, pubs, and other venues where background music matters. Likewise, you have many ones being a local in a tourist mecca.

All these venues might be interested in your song compilations packed in Personal stations. In a bigger market, chances are you can convert them into your customers.

It doesn’t mean that there is nothing to do for you in a small town. At the end of the day, that ski resort 20 miles away from your hometown may want to have a good soundtrack!

Moreover, Moodby Play, where all your stations are published, is available across five countries, including Austria, Belgium, Ireland, Poland, and Romania! With a couple of pretty popular Base stations, you will be able to get a good reward, too.

2. What are your genres?

It is a common practice to be a multi-genre music fan when you get into music curation. However, you know a few genres to a T. It means you have many hours of listening experience with particular artists and songs that help you make a playlist of blues instrumentals or classic rock ballads.

Since the Moodby DJ music catalog includes dance, reggae, RnB, Latin, and many other tracks, you can stay true to your taste when matching tunes.

Also, it tells you what businesses would like to stream your song compilations. For example, as a jazz expert, you can start with stations for coffee shops, cafes, and bakeries. And your RnB and electronic song selections may become popular among venues with a dancing floor.

3. Are you a professional DJ or music curator?

If you are not a newbie in the industry, you likely have some contacts in bars and pubs where you performed as a DJ or curated music. Your music curator career will benefit greatly from it!

First, you know who you can offer Personal stations to and get the first subscribers immediately. Second, your experience in music makes your offerings more compelling to your customers. Third, you probably have many followers on social media that you also can use to spread the word about your Base stations and attract listeners to them as well.

Not only pros but newcomers can thrive, though! Consider reaching out to your friends who work in hospitality or retail. They can talk to their bosses about your side hustle. Also, do not hesitate to use your social pages to share links to your Base stations and attract subscribers.

4. How much money would you like to get monthly?

Your answer might be: “The more, the better.” However, let’s clarify your possibilities regarding monthly rewards.

As a runner of a Base station, you get up to 25%* of the subscription fee per subscriber. For example, you have three subscribers who listen to your station. With 24.99 EUR per subscription, your monthly share is(25% of 24.99)*3 = 18.7 EUR.

A Personal station adds an extra subscription fee to the calculation of your monthly income. As a result, you get up to 25%* of the regular Moodby subscription and up to 80%** of your customized price. Say you create a Personal station for one venue with 149,99 EUR as an additional price. How much do you get? Let’s calculate: 25% of 24.99 + 70% of 149,99 = 111.2 EUR.

Personal stations generate more revenue than Base ones. However, you can map out another strategy by creating a certain amount of Personal and Base stations.

5. Do you have customers ready to join Moodby Play?

If your answer is positive, you can start negotiating with businesses to make Personal stations for them even today. Feel free to do the same if you think of music curation as your potential side business or a full-time job.

You can also test yourself with Base stations first. It is always up to you to decide what to choose.

*Your revenue depends on the percentage of time each venue is streaming your stations during a month.

**It depends on the price tier you select. Your share can vary between 70-80%.
